Bordewich Bray's New Principal and Vice Principal

Dear Bordewich Bray Students and Families,

Hello!  I am Mrs. Cheryl Richetta and I will be the new principal at Bordewich Bray Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year.  I am very excited to be joining such a wonderful school and am looking forward to getting to know all of the students and families.   I know we have a wonderful and exciting year ahead!

I want to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself.  I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and moved to Tempe, Arizona when I was 16 years old.  I attended Arizona State University, receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1997.  That same year, I moved to Carson City to complete my student teaching and was later hired as a kindergarten teacher at Mark Twain Elementary.  I spent 17 wonderful years as a classroom teacher, most of that time at Mark Twain, but also taught at Carson Middle School.  I have been blessed with opportunities to teach at almost every grade level, kindergarten through 7th grade.  In addition to my classroom experience, I was fortunate enough to work for three years as a reading and math instructional coach, as well as the Lead Literacy Specialist for the district, overseeing the roll out of the Read By Grade 3 state initiative.  In 2015, I received my Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.  I have spent the last four years as the Assistant Principal at Fremont Elementary.  The ability to work with students every day over the past 24 years is my favorite part of my job and one of the reasons I chose to be an educator.  When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Robert, and our five children.  My children have all gone through the Carson City School District.  My two oldest sons are Carson High graduates, and I also have a son who is a sophomore at Carson High School.  My daughter and youngest son attend Carson Middle School.

I also want to introduce and welcome Mr. Jon “Shelby” Tuttle as Bordewich Bray’s new Vice Principal.    Mr. Tuttle is so happy to have the opportunity to serve as the newest Vice Principal! He is very excited to work with the amazing staff, incredible students, and the great families that support us!  Mr. Tuttle will be starting his 19th year in education, where his experiences have spanned the Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade spectrum. He taught as a science teacher in middle school and high school.  Mr. Tuttle has also coached a multitude of sports in both youth and school levels. As an administrator, Mr. Tuttle was Vice Principal at Mark Twain Elementary for five years and Dean of Students at Carson High for the last two years. All three of his children are Carson High graduates and one of his grandsons currently attends school in the Carson City School District and the other will in a few years. When he is not working with children at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family; camping, fishing and just hanging out. He is looking forward to meeting you, so please when you see him, introduce yourself.  It is our desire to work in partnership with you in creating a safe and welcoming place for students, families and educators.

I am so excited for the future of Bordewich Bray Elementary. I look forward to watching students excel, while participating in engaging, rigorous, and differentiated instruction.  I believe our children are lucky to be taught by some of the best, most dedicated teachers in the district.  After the stressful year of a worldwide pandemic, I look forward to the return of more parent engagement in our school.  Knowing that parents and families have the most influence on a child’s life, as well as being your child’s first educator, I want to personally invite every family to take part in the education of our students.  There will be many opportunities to participate, from reading with your children at home and asking them about what they are learning, to taking part in our various family focused events.

Please mark your calendar for our Back to School, Meet and Greet on August 13, 2021 from 4:30-6:30.  This will be an opportunity for students and families to meet your new teacher and see your classroom.  We will also be having a family BBQ on this evening so we hope to see everyone there!  The first day of school is Monday, August 16, 2021. All students are welcome to arrive each morning between 8:05 and 8:20 where they will go directly to their classrooms for breakfast.  We will also be having many PTO events and meetings so please watch for more information coming soon!

Communication is a huge key to student success.  Please know that Mr. Tuttle and myself have an open-door policy and want every student and family member to feel comfortable talking with us about any questions or concerns.  Please feel free to contact us by phone, (775) 283-2400 or email ( or at any time.     Working together, our students are bound for a bright future.
